New Formula doesn't work

By Lance from North Carolina, age 55, who has been using Grecian Formula for 10 years:

I've been using a great product for 10 years. They took out the lead acetate and now it is just a bottle of worthless liquid. Don't buy it, I never will again.

No longer works

By Steele from the USA, age 55, who has been using Grecian Formula for 15 years:

No longer works. New formula smells like alcohol, bubbles like soap and no longer has the solids in the bottom like the old formula.

Youthair is the one I use now. It has the lead acetate in it that Grecian use to have. Grecian does not work AT ALL anymore as I used 6 bottles that I bought from Walmart and my hair is white again.

Useless product

By Tim from Texas, age 54, who has been using Grecian Formula for six years:

This was a product I recommended to friends and fathers at my children's school. The new formula doesn't do anything except get me comments on how grey my hair is becoming. I will not purchase any more unless they return to the prior formala.

Grecian Formula new formulation does not work anymore

By Edgar from Puerto Rico, age 49, who has been using Grecian Formula for over 10 years:

I though I bought a bad badge but soon I discovered the product I have been using for more than 10 years change its formulation. My grey hair is back. I am looking for Grecian formula product like alternative. Don't waste your money with the new Grecian formula. They neither Mark it as new formulation in the box. They simply reemplace the old formulation without notifications and it seems it does not work based on all the reviews I read.

Just not the same

By Richard from Ct, age 67, who has been using Grecian Formula 16 for 10 years:

I've used Grecian Formula for more than 10 years with great results. Last purchase left little doubt they changed the formula. It smells more like isopropyl alcohol now. Nearly completed with this bottle and my hair has turned nearly white. Totally useless. Think I will leave it as is and save the money I used to spend to keep my hair as it was when I was much younger. Too bad. It was a good run

Good to bad

By Gary from AL, age 61, who has been using Grecian Formula for 14 years:

I've used GF for about 14 years. It would work well if I followed directions. Even when I didn't follow the directions it maintained my hair color where it was when I was 40. Now, it doesn't work at all. I bought a bottle, thought it was defective, bought a second bottle, it too was useless thought it had to have been from bad batches. After buying the third bottle I realized something changed, looked online and surely, it had changed. With no notice. Grecian Formula owes me for three bottles of their useless product.

Why did they change the formula

By Bob from California, age 70, who has been using Grecian Formula for 10 years:

I've been using this product for 10 years and it worked great until recently. They recently changed the formula and now it doesn't work at all. I've gone to three different stores using four different bottles in two different states (NY and CA) and none of it works anymore. Why in the world would they change the formula so that it doesn't work. I absolutely cannot believe they would do that and there's really nothing out there that works like Grecian used to work.

Please bring back the old formula so I don't have to walk around with gray hair. I used to tell all of my friends how great this stuff works, but not anymore. What a disappointment it is now.

Used to be Excellent

By Judi from Ontario, age 65, who has been using Grecian Formula Plus and Regular for 10 years:

Whatever happened to the product? I have been buying this for the last 10 years. No other products touched it for men. The foam was even better when they came out with this! In the last year 2017, I have noticed it has been changed. Can anyone advise why it was changed?? When you have something on the market that works better than any other mens products, why would you change it?? Doesn't make sense when you are trying to capture a bigger market these days. Please change it back again! I tried the others out there and I dont like any of them either and now yours is the same. I guess will have to move to a womens hair colour, at least it stays in and doesnt ruin the pillow cases at night with all the hair dye coming back out. Very sad.

Now useless product

By Gary from FL, age 61, who has been using Grecian formula for 15 years:

I've been using this product for 15 yrs. It worked well. I didn't even need to use it that often. The last bottle I bought seemed different. I have been unable to get any color I have not been able to darken my hair at all. I thought I had a bad bottle. I bought another bottle today and noticed that it too smelled and looked different. I decided to check, and sure enough, someone has caused those of us content with a product to be deprived. If they didn't want to use it they didn't have too. The lead acetate also helped my dandruff. I have problems with that again too. Grecian formula needs to do 2 things. Refund our money and quit selling their now useless product.

What happened?

By Tom, age 69, who has been using Grecian formula for 25 years:

About 6 months ago I noticed that the Grecian Formula product had changed it smelled differently and did not have the usual residue on the bottom of the bottle. My hair became increasingly gray and I tried using my solution. But each day my hair got grayer and I suspected something has changed. Upon further research I discovered that the formula for Grecian had been changed because lead is now banned from cosmetic products. Grecian Formula is now useless, do not waste your money.

Grecian formula formula change?

By James from Connecticut, age 55, who has been using Grecian formula for 10 years:

I have used Grecian formula for probably 10 years. Recent experience with the product however has been poor. What i assume is the active ingredient used to settle out of suspension between uses and be on the bottom of the bottle. My last 3 bottles however this is not happening. It appears there is no longer any ingredient that comes out of suspension. Did they change the formula? Either way it no longer seems to work. My hair is no longer responding as well and is slowly turning gray again. Did they change MFG locations or equipment? Disappointing...

You just keep getting older!

By Germain from California, age 55, who has been using Grecian Plus Foam for 20 years:

I've been using the Grecian Formula Foam for decades. I dye my hair where it's short around the ears, because Grecian does work slowly, but it looks natural. You don't want that redish-brown monotone color Schwarzenegger has. As I've grown older, I have to use more because my hair is getting even whiter. If I want no tinge of grey I have to apply 3Xs a day and twice a day to maintain. It's interesting that people think the Grecian Formula is changing when it is us who change. It's your DNA making your hair more white and fall out more.

Grecian is the Best

By Jim from Scotland, age 73, who has been using Grecian 2000 lotion and conditioner for nearly 20 years:

For nearly 20 years I enjoyed the benefits of hiding my grey/white hair without resorting to dye using the Grecian product available as the years went by. There were no side effects and no stains on bed linen or running down my face when it rained! Then about 2005, it was banned in the EU and Canada because it contained lead acetate which was suspected (without evidence) of being carcinogenic. Common sense prevailed in the USA where the original and highly effective product is still available over the counter. Good for you! Now I come to my real point. I live in Thailand. I want to buy Grecian 2000 with lead acetate in the USA. I want it shipped to Thailand. Can anyone out there help me?

By Jerry from Fort Myers FL, age 71, who has been using Grecian plus foam for 20 plus years:

Two months ago I bought a can at CVS, at first I put it on my hair as I usually did, but I noticed every day my hair was getting whiter so I started applying every morning, absolutely no results now my here is totally white. Either they have changed their formula or I bought a defective can. I will try another brand now.

IT WORKS FOR ME

By Tamara from California, age 48, who has been using Grecian formula 16 for three months:

I was curious about the chemicals in Grecian Formula 16 so I decided to put it in a search engine and I found these reviews. I didn't realize that it had lead in it until now but I have had no bad effects from the product. In fact it seems like my hair is finally growing. It DID make my grey hair go away. I'm not real big into washing my hair a lot because it is kind of dry and breaks off so I like to leave the natural oils in and just rinse it with hot water and use a little conditioner on the ends for detangling it. I am concerned about the lead and sulfur now and am thinking I may look for an alternative but I really like how the product works I just wish it didn't have lead in it. Bummer!

Works fine

By Ron from Indiana, age 48, who has been using Grecian 16/Grecian Plus for two weeks:

I used this before but wasn't super happy with the smell. Well, I hate using hair dyes (even Touch of Grey) so I tried this again. Started with Formula 16 for about two weeks and the smell is kind of hard. Switched to Grecian Plus (foam) and it's better. Only shampoo once or twice a week and use baby shampoo. Gray is surely disappearing so I'm very happy with this product. Should be where I want within a week then I can just to maintenance. I honestly think it's the best to cover gray. I have no side-affects. I'm not sure if the foam is as potent as the liquid, but I live alone (for now) so smell is not an issue initially, but I started to wonder if others would notice, so I switched to the foam.

Awesome Product

By Dan from New England, age 57, who has been using Grecian Hair Formula for one year:

I was hesitant to try Grecian Hair Formula for several reasons. The first was that the directions read that you shouldn't wash your hair for the first week or so. I am an avid runner and play sports almost everyday so I figured it wouldn't work for me. The second reason was that it was best applied in the morning... I shower both morning and at night before bed... I bought my first bottle a year ago and have been using it ever since...From the beginning, I still washed my hair everyday and only applied it at night 30 minutes before bedtime. It was a gradual process but by the time I had used about half a bottle, my gray hair was exactly the same color as my natural hair color. The awesome thing about this product is that your hair feels soft and conditioned. There are natural highlights throughout your hair...not that mono-toned shoe polish look you see when guys "color" their hair...The other great thing is that you just have to use the product 2x a week to maintain the color and shine. If you stop using it for a few weeks the grey starts to come back slowly and there are never any roots showing a distinction between the colored hair and the grey...it just fades naturally. I give this product 5 STARS out of 5!

Hardly worked and Hair Loss!

By JB, age 35, who has been using Grecian Formula 16 for six weeks:

Used the non-lead formula back in 2009 and stopped using it after about 6 weeks as I hardly noticed any difference in color restoration. Worse, what I did notice was several strands of hair falling off in the shower. Needless to say, I stopped using it and will never buy it again. I switched to Youthair almost a year later and is by far superior. White hair is gone, yet no hair loss.

By Scott from Long Island, age 25, who has been using Grecian formula for two months:

The box said that it would get rid of gray in a month. I used Grecian for 2 months and still had grays. Maybe it darkened a few hairs here and there, but the point is I still had grays when I wanted to get rid of them all. What is really ridiculous is that the directions tell you to try and not shampoo more than once a week. Who the hell only shampoos once a week?!! Grecian Formula Made My Hair Fall Out

By John from Massachusetts, age 54, who has been using Grecian formula for three weeks:

With Grecian Formula my grey did slowly turn to my natural hair color...but it also slowly made my hair fall out. By the third week of use, hair was falling out in globs on by comb. I've learned after the fact that the Formula uses a lead based chemical that is a poison and toxic if used too much. If you try Grecian, watch carefully for loss of hair. If it starts ...quit using right away!

Didn't work for me

By Bill Gloden, age 56, who has been using Grecian formula for two months:

I followed the directions carefully and used a whole bottle over a couple of months. Absolutely no change in color occurred (my hair was silver and still is). This was a very strange thing for me as the thought that it would not work never entered my mind because I had seen the commercials for many years. I even started out using a little less of the product the first few days because I was concerned that the change would be too noticeable too fast. I didn't need to worry about that after all.

It takes longer to work

By Robin, age 59, who has been using Grecian formula for seven years:

It has become increasingly more difficult to cover my grey hair with Grecian. Now I read that I am not the only consumer experiencing difficulties with this product. The bottle says it contains lead acetate but this stuff is much less efficient than it used to be. I thought that Grecian was becoming less effective on my hair due to the many years of its continued use or that my hair has grown too white to get covered but the reason might be the formula has changed. It is so weak that I am considering trying something else.
